DEEP BEDDING METHOD FOR CHICKENS

The Deep Bedding Method for chickens is a technique that saves time, money and allows nature to do its job! Creating a rich compost along the way.

Start your coop with about a 6” depth of Hempsteed bedding.

Instead of a weekly scoop out, you let the bedding absorb manure over time.
Lightly rake the top of the bed, to mix it up, then add small amounts of hemp bedding if you start to notice a smell or when you feel it needs freshening. Raking will help break down the feces.

Making Compost- Hemp, chicken manure and air are the perfect home for beneficial aerobic microbes that break down the chicken poop into compost. The mixture of Hempsteed bedding and chicken droppings is a great carbon to nitrogen ratio to attract these beneficial microbes and makes a better smelling environment for your flock. Bad odors come from a wet anaerobic (wet soggy shavings..) bed, hemp fights this!

A deep bed with hemp can mean a complete clean out is only needed about once a year that yields a rich soil building compost!
