Chicken and Small Animal Hemp Bedding

Horse Is In Our Name But Hens Will Love It Just the Same

Hemp based bedding for chickens

It should come as no surprise that Hempsteed bedding works great for your chickens, and any other small animal requiring bedding. Hemp is a superior bedding option for owners, their animals and the environment.

Hemp is 4X more absorbent than pine shavings. Keeping your flock and animals drier and healthier.

Moisture control means:

  • Insect control- less flies, mites and other insects.
  • Small Animal Hemp Bedding absorbs urine better and keeps it at the bottom of the bed. The rest of the bedding remains dry and fresh for a long period of time. (Learn more about the deep bedding method).
  • Amonia and other odors are reduced!

Hemp bedding has little to no dust and will greatly reduce the risk of respiratory issues.

Hemp bedding is more comfortable on your animals feet.

Chicken manure + Hemp makes a more valuable compost.

For all these reasons, hemp bedding last much longer than other options and you add less! That = Savings!

DEEP BEDDING METHOD FOR CHICKENS

The Deep Bedding Method for chickens is a technique that saves time, money and allows nature to do its job! Creating a rich compost along the way.

Start your coop with about a 6” depth of Hempsteed bedding.

  • Instead of a weekly scoop out, you let the bedding absorb manure  over time.
  • Lightly rake the top of the bed,  to mix it up, then add small amounts of hemp bedding if you start to notice a smell or when you feel it needs freshening. Raking will help break down the feces.

Making Compost-  Hemp, chicken manure and air are the perfect home for beneficial aerobic microbes that break down the chicken poop into compost. The mixture of Hempsteed bedding and chicken droppings is a great carbon to nitrogen ratio to attract these beneficial microbes and makes a  better smelling environment for your flock. Bad odors come from a wet anaerobic (wet soggy shavings..) bed, hemp fights this!

A deep bed with hemp can mean a complete clean out is only needed about once a year that yields a rich  soil building compost!
